It has been one of Mrs. Zhang’s dreams to connect Deyi Wanxiao Elementary with foreign schools. She strongly believes kids can be both learners and teachers, and the system kid-teach-kid is a more effective way to learn and develop.  This week a ground breaking progress was made when 10 elementary students from the United States shared their videos to introduce themselves both in English and Chinese after their teacher, Mrs. Panda, shared the video below in her classroom.

Mrs. Panda

Mrs. Panda is a well-respected teacher at Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary, a school specializing in teaching American children Chinese.  She is also president and founder of Joey’s Wings. Many thanks to Mrs. Panda, her son, David, and her students, Gwen, Hong, Logan, Nayomi, Noe, Rio, Tai, Zahava, and Lily for coming to Liangqiao Channel and offering your help to unprivileged students.  The American students’ videos were a big pleasant surprise for Deyi Wanxiao. Everybody was thrilled and worked hard to understand the English from the videos and practiced saying ”Nice to meet you” to greet those 10 American students.

The last video at the end of this post is Chinese students greeting the American students who did self-introductions. You can tell it is hard to hear what the students were saying because around 60 students had to use only one microphone and their voice were often stifled. This technical problem has existed since the day we started online teaching. It is a pity when Chinese students said they liked the videos from American students, but we couldn’t hear one single word.
